Mauviel. Discover the Legend
The Legacy Behind the Cookware
Founded in 1830
In 1830, in a Normandy village called Villedieu-les-Poêles, which is located near the Mont-Saint-Michel, Mr. Ernest Mauviel established the Mauviel manufacturing company.
Villedieu-les-Poêles, “the city of copper”, has an 800 year heritage of copper manufacturing. The strength and foundation for Mauviel's manufacturing expertise is based upon this rich tradition of copper manufacturing that has been handed down from generation to generation.

Use + Care of Copper Cookware
What care does Copper Cookware Require?
Interior (Stainless Steel)
- Use gentle cleaning: Wash with warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft sponge.
- Avoid abrasives: Steel wool and harsh scouring powders can scratch stainless.
- Remove stuck-on food: Simmer water with a little dish soap or baking soda, then wipe clean.
- Prevent discoloration: Occasional rainbow tinting is normal; a stainless steel cleaner will remove it if desired.
Exterior (Copper)
- Hand-wash only: Copper should not go in the dishwasher.
- Dry immediately: Prevents water spots and minimizes oxidation.
- Polish when needed: Use a copper cleaner like Mauviel’s Cupry polish, or a gentle homemade mixture (lemon + salt or vinegar + salt). Apply, rinse, and buff dry.
- Let natural patina develop if you prefer: Darkening over time doesn’t harm performance — it’s just cosmetic.
General Use Tips
- Use moderate heat: Copper heats very quickly; high heat is rarely needed and can discolor the pan.
- Match burner size to pan size to avoid overheating the sides.
- Avoid thermal shock: Don’t plunge a hot pan into cold water.
Does Copper Cookware Work on Induction?
You need an induction disk which contains magnetic stainless steel.
Can Copper Cookware Go Into the Dishwasher?
For items that are not dishwasher safe, Do not use in dishwasher.
Can you use bleach cleaning products on your copper cookware?
Absolutely not.
Do the handles stay cool while cooking?
Bronze & cast iron handles will get hot on the stove top. Stainless Steel handles will stay cool on the stove top. All handles will get hot if used in the oven.
Is copper cookware hard to maintain?
No, actually it's easier to maintain than stainless steel. Copper is a very soft highly polished metal that releases food very easily. Stainless steel is a very tough metal with a rough surface that holds on to food and makes it difficult to clean.
Can copper cookware go into the oven?
Yes but be careful with copper pieces with tin interiors (such as those in the M'Tradition collection). Tin starts to blister at approximately 460° F. Blistered tin needs to be retinned.
