New Years Signature Cocktail: A Twist on the French 75

New Years Signature Cocktail: A Twist on the French 75

I truly feel no cocktail revivals the French 75 in elegance and simplicity.  This classic cocktail that dates back to World War I and is named after the French 75mm field artillery cannon, famous for its power.  This drink has a strong, sparkling kick that's crisp and refreshing with the botanical complexity of gin, the brightness of citrus, and the effervescence of Champagne.  Crème de Violette is a violet-flavored liqueur that is sometimes added in modern variations to create a floral, slightly sweeter twist and a pretty lavender hue.  For this recipe, we will be substituting Creme de Violette for Yes! Cocktails Lavender Simple Syrup.

Serves: 1 cocktail

Ingredients

  • 1 oz gin

  • ½ oz fresh lemon juice

  • ½ oz Yes! Cocktail Lavender Syrup

  • 3 oz chilled Champagne or sparkling wine

  • Ice

  • Lemon twist or lavender sprig, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.

  2. Add the gin, fresh lemon juice, and Yes! Cocktail Lavender Syrup.

  3. Shake well for about 10–12 seconds until chilled.

  4. Strain into a chilled champagne flute or coupe.

  5. Top gently with Champagne or sparkling wine.

  6. Garnish with a lemon twist or a small lavender sprig.

For a Mocktail Version:

For a mocktail version, replace gin with sparkling water or non-alcoholic gin and top with sparkling lemonade.

Batch ahead for parties by mixing gin, lemon, and syrup in advance; add bubbles just before serving.

The French 75 is traditionally served in a flute or coupe to showcase the bubbles, and its balance of tart, sweet, and bubbly makes it a favorite for celebrations, brunches, and festive occasions.  It makes a perfect NYE Signature Cocktail.
