Recipe adapted from Homemade Chocolate Apples by Janette at Culinary Ginger

Ingredients:

6 small, crisp apples

12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips or white chocolate chips

1 tablespoon coconut oil

½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts

½ cup dried cranberries

½ cup mini chocolate candies or seasonal sprinkles

6 lollipop or popsicle sticks

Instructions:

  1. Wash the apples thoroughly and dry them completely. Remove the stems and insert a lollipop or popsicle stick firmly into the top of each apple.

  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper.

  3. Place the chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 20-second intervals, stirring well after each interval, until the chocolate is smooth and completely melted.

  4. Dip each apple into the melted chocolate, turning it as needed to coat the apple. Let any excess chocolate drip back into the bowl before placing the apple on the prepared baking sheet.

  5. While the chocolate is still soft, sprinkle the apples with chopped nuts, dried cranberries, mini chocolate candies, or your choice of toppings. You can also drizzle them with additional melted chocolate for a decorative finish.

  6. Place the apples in the refrigerator for about 20 to 30 minutes, or until the chocolate has completely set.

  7. Allow the apples to sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving.
